Congratulations to the pupils at St. Olave's Grammar School on their impressive A level results. These brilliant outcomes are well deserved and are testament to the talent and dedication of pupils and staff. Thank you to the remarkable pupils, their supportive parents, and the dedicated teachers who have played an instrumental role in this success.

91% of the grades secured by Olavians were A* to B with 41% being at A*, and 76% being at A*/A. There are some exceptional individual results, which include 55 pupils securing 3 A* grades or more. These results are notable as 2023 is the first year since the pandemic that exams have taken place without any significant adaptations.

The results have been achieved by pupils who have focussed on more than just their examinations and have been supported by an exceptional pastoral programme. Pupils have looked after each other and supported the local community, led with passion various clubs and societies, created journals, triumphed in national and international competitions, raised money for charities through events, such as Festival, Cabaret and Cultural Evening, performed brilliantly in concerts and on the sports field, and engaged in Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.

I hope the grades the pupils have been awarded will enable them to move on in their lives with a sense of pride in their hard work and accomplishments, whatever they choose to do.

GCSEs

St. Olave’s is proud to extend heartfelt congratulations to its remarkable pupils for their extraordinary accomplishments over the last three years, as they navigated the rigorous journey of preparing for their GCSE examinations. While acknowledging the numerous challenges, we commend the unwavering dedication and tenacity that these pupils exhibited.

In summary, 91% of the grades secured by pupils were grades 9-7, with 50% being at 9 and 76% being at 9/8. There are some excellent individual results, which include 9 students securing all 9s. Our overall percentage of grades 9-7 was almost identical to last year, and higher than in 2019, despite grading standards being adjusted to reflect the grade distribution of 2019 as part of a return to normal following the disruption to public exams during the pandemic.

Our students are a testament to excellence, serving as a source of inspiration and pride for all of us at St. Olave’s. We celebrate the remarkable achievements of this exceptional year group, which reflect not only their remarkable talents but also the unwavering commitment of staff.

It is important to note that a significant portion of their accomplishments cannot be quantified through examination grades alone. Our students have made invaluable contributions to co-curricular activities, excelled in sports, performed on concert stages, and demonstrated exceptional leadership through student councils, setting inspiring examples for their peers. These achievements hold immeasurable value, reflecting the well-rounded development of our students.

As they progress onto the next stage of their education and life journeys, we are confident that our pupils will continue to make substantial contributions to the Sixth Form and beyond. We extend our heartfelt best wishes to each and every one of them as they embark on this new chapter.

A-LEVEL

Congratulations to all our students for making it through an incredibly tough two years. None of them able to sit GCSEs in 2020 and so this summer’s exams were the first external assessments they took. It’s a tremendous achievement, and we are very proud of each one of them.

We are extremely pleased that A Level results at St. Olave’s Grammar School reflect the students’ hard work and perseverance over the last two years. This has always been profoundly impressive, and I cannot thank them, parents and the staff enough. I hope the grades the students have been awarded will enable them to move on in their lives with a sense of pride in their hard work and accomplishments, whatever they choose to do.

These results are impressive as they have been achieved by students who have focussed on more than just their examinations. They have supported each other and the local community, led clubs and societies, written journals, entered national and international competitions successfully, raised money for charities through events, such as Festival, Cabaret and Cultural Evening, performed brilliantly in concerts and on the sports field, and engaged in Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

The resilience students have shown due to the disruption of the pandemic is remarkable. They are all exceptional, inspiring, and talented young people and we couldn’t be prouder of them.

In summary, 96.4% of the grades secured by Olavians were A* to B with 59% being at A*, and 87% being at A*/A. There are some exceptional individual results, which include 93 students securing 3 A* grades or more.  All these figures are higher than 2021.

The A Level results reflect the hard work and perseverance of students and staff over the last two years. This has always been profoundly impressive.

GCSE

Congratulations to all pupils on making it through an incredibly tough two and a half years, in preparation for their GCSEs. We all know how hard it’s been at times, but also how hard you’ve worked. Our pupils are all exceptional, inspiring, and talented young people and we couldn’t be prouder of them.

In summary, 91.4% of the grades secured by Olavians at GCSE were Grades 9 to 7 with 52.1% achieving Grade 9. There were also some exceptional results, including 16 students who achieved 10 GCSEs at Grade 9 and 41 students who achieved 10 GCSEs at Grade 9 or 8

We celebrate the wonderful achievements of this very fine year group. These excellent outcomes are well deserved and are testament to both the talent and dedication of pupils and staff, and to the quality of education maintained throughout the pandemic. A great deal of what they have accomplished cannot be measured. Pupils’ contribution to co-curricular activities, to teams and societies, their participation in concerts and on the sports field, their leadership on student councils, and being role models for younger members of the School has been impressive. These are the things, which are not directly related to examinations grades, but are achievements of enormous value. I know as Olavians they will continue to contribute to life in the Sixth Form or whatever they choose to go on to do.

We wish them all every success as they move onto the next stage of their education and lives.

We know it has been another extraordinary year for students and we are extremely pleased that results at St. Olave’s Grammar School are once again outstanding and testament to students’ hard work, perseverance and the support of teachers and parents. The way in which our students adapted to the academic and social challenges presented by the Covid -19 pandemic, was profoundly impressive.

At A-Level, 95.1% of the grades secured by Olavians were A* to B.

At GCSE 95.6% of the grades secured by Olavians were 9 to 7 with 52.9% qualifications being at Grade 9.  100% secured Grade 5 or more in English and Mathematics. There are some exceptional individual results, which include 18 students securing Grade 9 in 10 subjects.

We know it has been a really unsettling few months for students and we are pleased to be able to reassure you that A Level results at St. Olave’s Grammar School are once again outstanding, and slightly higher than previous years. 95.7% of the grades secured by Olavians were A* to B with over a third of all qualifications being at A*, and three quarters being at A*/A. There are some exceptional individual results, which include 53 students securing 3 A* grades or more.

At GCSE 93.7% of the grades secured by Olavians were 9 to 7 with 48.5 qualifications being at Grade 9. 100% of the grades for English and Mathematics were at Grade 5 or above. There were some exceptional individual results, which included 9 students securing Grade 9 in 10 subjects.

They have been active on the sports field, performing in musical concerts and drama productions, supporting the local community, mentoring younger students, leading clubs and societies, writing journals, entering national and international competitions and engaging in Duke of Edinburgh. We wish them all the very best in the next stage of their education.”

A Level Results at St. Olave’s Grammar School were once again outstanding, and consistent with performances in previous years. 93% of the grades secured by Olavians were A* to B with almost a third of all qualifications being at A*. In addition to some exceptional individual results, 42 students secured 3 or more A* grades. 

At GCSE Level 89% GCSEs at grades 9 – 7 and 71% at grades 9/8. Students have risen magnificently to the challenge of GCSEs, and this hardworking group have improved on the outstanding results of last year. 23 students obtained ten or more GCSEs at grades 9 or 8. Six students gained grades 9 in every subject, as well as top grades in the Higher Project Qualification and Free Standing Maths Unit. 99.2% of students achieved Grade 5 or above in English and Mathematics and the English Baccalaureate average point score (EBacc APS) was 8.17. 

2017/18

At A-Level 94% of grades achieved were at A*/B grades. A total of 72% of all grades were at A*/A,  27 students gained straight A* grades in at least 3 subjects.

86.7% of GCSE grades achieved were 9-7  or A*/A. A total of 72% at grades 9/8 or A*. 19 students achieved ten or more GCSEs at grades 9/8 or A* with seven of those students gaining 9 or A* in every subject.

These results confirmed St. Olave’s Grammar School as one of the nation’s top boys’ state schools, as highlighted in the Sunday Times Parent Power supplement. The whole community can be very proud of these results which are a just reward for the endeavours of the students, the support of their families and the outstanding teaching of the staff.

We are thrilled to announce that we recently had our overall provisional performance at the end of Key Stage 4 in 2022 confirmed. Our Progress 8 score of 0.95 and our Attainment 8 score of 84 were the highest in Bromley.

We also had the highest percentage of students entering the EBacc, 98%, which is the combination of subjects that the government think is important for young people to study at GCSE. It includes English Language and Literature, Maths, the Sciences, Geography or History and a Language.

Progress 8 measures achievement as distinct from attainment.Based on their performance at the end of KS2 (Primary School) the government calculates a target grade that every student should get at GCSE in every subject. If a student gets the target grade in a particular subject, that counts as a progress score of 0. If they get one grade lower than the target, that’s a progress score of -1; one grade higher gets a progress score of +1, and so on. The progress scores in a defined group of the best 8 subjects for every student are then averaged to produce the Progress 8 score for each school. In the case of St Olave’s, this being almost 1 means that, on average, the school is adding value by 1 grade to every GCSE taken, compared to what government data would have predicted. Because a very significant proportion of our students are so bright that their target grades are all A*s, and because it is impossible to do better than this, their progress score is effectively capped at 0. This is a particularly challenging problem for Grammar Schools. However, it also means that the school must be adding particularly good value to students who are not at the very top of our cohort  to receive a Progress 8 score of nearly 1 overall.
