Pupil Premium
Public funded schools in England get extra government funding to help them improve the attainment of their disadvantaged pupils. Evidence has shown that disadvantaged pupils generally face extra challenges meaning they often do not perform as well as their peers. Pupils eligible to receive this funding are those who have been entitled to free school meals (FSM) within the last six years and children in care or looked after (LAC), including children who have been adopted from care.
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium (PP), which is additional to main school funding can help to close the attainment gap by ensuring that extra funding reaches the pupils who need it most. Pupil Premium is an annual payment and awarded to the school for pupils in Years 7-11. The level of government funding for Pupil Premium is currently £1035 per annum. There is also Service Pupil Premium which is awarded to pupils from service families. This works differently to Pupil Premium and is used to support the pupils’ pastoral care, the current funding for SPP is £355 per annum.
At St. Olave’s we recognise the importance of using PP funding effectively in order to raise students’ attainment and enable them to reach their full potential.
