Welcome

Chaplaincy

W

e wish to ensure that all pupils benefit from membership of an Anglican Foundation which serves a multicultural community. The chapel, the Christian sacrements, collective worship and religious education have a significant place in nurturing the spiritual growth of members of the School community. The values which inform the life and relationships of the School are those of the Christian faith. These values include respect for members of other faith communities or none

Chapel Away Day

A weekend away at Carroty Wood, a Christian Holiday Centre near Tonbridge run by the Barnabas Trust, takes place over the last weekend of the Summer Term. It is very popular. Thirty or more pupils attend, with most or all Year Groups represented, together with a team of around ten or more staff. The programme is full and varied and includes both indoor and outdoor activities, as well as worship and ‘think sessions’ relating to some aspect of the Christian Faith. Letters and application forms are sent out in the Spring Term.

Friday Forum:

‘Friday Forum’ is a discussion and Bible study group run by the Chaplain and Mrs. Morgan. All pupils are welcome. It meets in Room 34 for half an hour every Friday at 12.40pm and seeks to provide an opportunity to discuss and explore the Christian Faith.

Wednesday Communion, Chapel Choir and Communion Assistants:

At the regular 8.40am Wednesday Communion service in the Chapel, which pupils can attend as an alternative to assembly, there is a team of over forty volunteers from all Year Groups, who participate as readers or assistants, and a Chapel Choir run by a sixth former.

Baptism and Confirmation:

A number of pupils are prepared each year for Confirmation and sometimes Baptism as well. Letters about this are sent out to parents in the second half of the Autumn Term; the bulk of the preparation classes take place during a lunch break in the Spring Term; and the Confirmation service takes place at the beginning of the Summer Term, usually on a Friday evening.

St Olave's Remembrance Service

Each year the School holds a Remembrance Service which commemorates those Old Olavians that died in active service.
