Two of our Year 12 students, Joseph and Molayo, have been accepted on the Destination STEMM programme run by the Royal Society in conjunction with the Windsor Foundation. This is a mentoring programme for Year 12 students, of Black background, living or studying in Greater London.  The programme provides one-to-one mentoring and aims to address the gaps in the progression for students along the Science Technology Engineering Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) pathway. The students have attended 2 sessions so far. On the first, they completed teambuilding activites to get to know the other 18 students on the programme, and learned about goal setting, building an effective team, and giving or receiving feedback. On Wednesday 27th September, they visited the royal society to meet their mentors for the first time. The mentors are members of the royal society the students will meet once a month through the year, to discuss areas of science, interviews, UCAS and other goals. They were then given a talk by Lonnie Johnson, inventor of the super soaker and were able to network with the rest of the mentors. Both Joseph and Molayo are excited about the rest of the programme.
