Statement on St. Olave’s centre assessment grading process

Ofqual’s guidance states: "The centre assessment grades submitted to exam boards must reflect a fair, reasonable and carefully considered judgement of the most likely grade a student would have achieved if they had sat their exams this summer and completed any non-exam assessment. Heads of Centre should emphasise the need for judgements to be objective and fair."

Each subject department worked collaboratively to develop a robust methodology and used their professional judgment to select the most appropriate assessment data and metrics to calculate a student’s centre assessed grade in a fair and reasonable way. The methodology was shared with the Headteacher (the Head of Centre) and members of the Senior Leadership Team, which provided a second layer of methodology development. Once the centre assessed grades were calculated by subject departments, these were then reviewed by the Headteacher and members of the Senior Leadership Team. Additionally, any students with grounds for special consideration were considered by the Exams Officer, Head of Pastoral and Heads of Year, and adjustments made where appropriate.

Appeals and complaints

There is a limited appeals process.

Dissatisfaction with the grades issued by exam boards does not constitute grounds for appeal, unless there is evidence that there has been a technical error by the centre or the exam board.

Further details are set out in the Results and Appeals Process downloadable document below.

Autumn Exams

Students who feel that their grades from the Summer do not reflect their ability have the opportunity to take exams in the Autumn series.

AS/A Level exams will be between 5 and 23 October, school deadline for entry 2 September.

GCSE exams will be between 2 and 23 November, school deadline for entry 14 September.

These are very strict deadlines for return of entry forms and payment. Please see the Downloads section below for the relevant entry forms.

Please note:

  • the Autumn series will be based on written exams only (except for the Externally Set Task for Art & Design).
  • the Autumn Exam Entry Forms below, have been updated to reflect the change in Government guidelines.

Certificates

Summer 2020 certificates should be available from the end of November.

Summer 2019 certificates should be collected by December 2020. Exam board regulations allow certificates not collected within twelve months to be destroyed.

Please note that you are required to sign to confirm that you have received your certificates and that they are correct. If you are unable to collect your certificates yourself you will need to give authority for someone else to collect and check them on your behalf. This may be a letter addressed to Mrs Dixon or an email to examsofficer@saintolaves.net stating who will collect your certificates.  The person collecting the certificates should bring evidence of their identity when collecting the certificates.

Certificates for students still attending St. Olave’s will be handed out by Form Tutors.
