Chaplaincy & Faith

Happiness - Success - Community

The school Chaplain is The Reverend Dr Julie Bowen, an ordained priest in the Church of England.

The Chaplain’s main responsibility is the spiritual well-being of the school community – staff, students and families.  Among other things this means being available on demand for any pastoral care and guidance, with a particular emphasis on providing a Christian perspective.

A weekly service of Holy Communion is held every Wednesday at 8.40am, which all members of the school may attend as an alternative to normal registration and collective worship.  Music is led by our Chapel Choir and conducted by a senior student.  Certain festival days such as Harvest Festival and Remembrance are celebrated with Special services. Every term ends with a whole school service in the Great Hall.

Further Information relating to our Religious Affiliation and Collective Worship Policy is available here

Students of all ages can be prepared for Confirmation and/or Baptism.  Preparation can be offered at a mutually acceptable time and the Service of Confirmation/Baptism can be accessed as part of the local church, either to school or to where you live. Please contact the Chaplain for further details. Alongside this is the opportunity for discussion and help as part of a group or on a 1:1 basis with the Chaplain. Each month a parent's/carers' prayer meeting is held over Zoom; please contact us for further details.

The Chaplain prepares Collective Worship themes and Bible readings based around the Church of England Vision for Education and addresses the whole school every week in Friday morning Collective Worship. These themes are also accessed in classrooms through the “Thoughts for the Week” presentation also available on this website here:

The Chaplain also co-ordinates the St. Olave’s community volunteering scheme known as the Le Chavetois Community Service.

The Chaplain is based part-time at St. Olave’s and will otherwise be at St Andrew's Bromley.  She is usually in school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and can be contacted at other times on 07775 674503.

School Prayer

Eternal God,

Help us through our duty to you
To love our neighbour,
To care for others,
To do our best for and in school,
To work for the common good of our community,
And to care for ourselves as we serve you.

AMEN
