Black History Month Show 2026

October is the month we take the opportunity to deepen our understanding of Britain's history in the UK, by celebrating Black History Month here at St. Olave's with student performances and presentations from almost all year groups. It's purpose is to challenge racism and marginalisation, and to promote racial harmony.

BHM was initiated in 1987 by Akyaaba Addai-Sebo, a Ghanaian activist and special projects co-ordinator for the Greater London Council
The first celebration coincided with the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the Caribbean and the 25th anniversary of the organisation of African unity. October was chosen for its cultural and political importance to African leaders.

Well done to everyone involved in this year's celebration
