Olave's Reading

We are pleased to be encouraging our students to read for pleasure and it has been a delight to see students from all year groups logging their reading at the "Olave's Reading" SharePoint Site since its launch.

Our initial questionnaire to students about their reading over the previous year showed that many of our students are already keen readers with parental support (thank you!), and so we are encouraging them to read a wider range of topics and genres as well as more overall.

Students can access the Olave's Reading Site, using their usual School login credentials here:

OLAVE'S READING SITE LOGIN

The "Olave's Reading" Site contains the Olavian 100 - our top 100 suggestions for fiction and other books, sorted by key stage that reflect the diversity of our students as well as a reading log for students to keep a record their reading.

Promoting Reading for pleasure

Departments have provided reading suggestions that are available for students on the Olave's Reading Site. These are also published on the pertinent Subject pages of this website.

Reading1Colourful posters encouraging reading and promoting books from the reading suggestions are decorating the school corridors; more are appearing every few weeks.

A House quiz on books attracted 225 entries across the school with an average score of 12/20.

Students’ reading logs enter them for an individual/form competition to read the most books overall by the end of June. They also show whether a student has read at least seven books by the end of June, with at least one from each of these categories: languages; humanities; English fiction and drama; science and medicine; creative arts (including music, art, design technology and engineering); and maths and computing.

Forthcoming Events

We run two book club meetings per half term for each key stage, with each focusing on a book from a different category.

Future dates and books for book clubs will be advertised here and on the Olave's Reading Site as well as through the school.

Students do please keep your eyes open for these, and Parents - don't forget to ask your son or daughter when they are happening and what the chosen books are!
