European Day of Languages - 2026
Last week, St Olave’s celebrated Languages Week under the theme ‘Languages Unite’, giving pupils the opportunity to celebrate the rich linguistic diversity of our school community.
Activities included a tutor-group challenge to discover how many languages are spoken across the school, presentations and videos exploring the benefits of bilingualism, and discussion about how learning languages can open doors to future study, careers, travel and international opportunities.
The Main School Library created a display to highlight the languages taught at St. Olave's and the variety of resources available for students to borrow. European and the flags of other nations were used to embody the wider diverse cultures represented
by our school community.
The week was a valuable reminder that languages not only develop communication skills, but also broaden our understanding of other cultures and perspectives.
