Congratulations to Aanya Chaudhary and Ayomide Ajayi, who achieved the Gold CREST Award for their project investigating the therapeutic potential of natural enzyme inhibition. Their research explored how compounds found in plants, particularly green tea, can influence enzyme activity linked to conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, highlighting the potential of natural substances to complement conventional medicine.

Congratulations also to Gabriel Doyle and Ines Wang Neto, whose project investigated the antibacterial potential of natural compounds. Testing substances against E. coli, they found honey and honey-green tea combinations showed particularly strong antibacterial effects, demonstrating promising alternatives in the fight against antibiotic resistance. We are immensely grateful to Dr Patel for his expert mentorship and invaluable support throughout both projects.

If you are inspired by these achievements, the CREST Awards offer students the opportunity to undertake their own STEM research and investigation projects, with Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards recognising increasing levels of challenge and independent scientific thinking. The CREST Club meets in S2 on Week 1 Tuesdays at 1:00pm.

Olavian students are invited to come along to discover how they can develop their research skills, explore a topic that interests them, and work towards a nationally recognised award.
