This week's Black History Month Show celebrated the powerful influence of British artists on British culture. The event featured guest speaker Afua Hirsch, the acclaimed writer, journalist, and documentary maker, who gave a personal and inspiring talk about her experiences growing up in Wimbledon and discovering her Ghanaian heritage, highlighting the deep connections between British and Ghanaian history.

Over 150 students from all year groups took part in performances, showcasing poetry, monologues, original writing, dance, and music. Works by artists such as George the poet, John Agard, Lemn Sissay, Benjamin Zephaniah, Malorie Blackman, and Andrea Levy were performed, alongside lively dance routines and musical pieces ranging from classical to rap, pop, and gospel, featuring songs by Stormzy, Dave, and Pharrell Williams.

Students also gave insightful talks on topics including the UK civil rights movement, the importance of African and Caribbean names, the evolution of black music, and representation in British film. The performances were of exceptional quality, and the event stood as a vibrant tribute to black creativity, identity, and pride.
