Silver DofE Assessed Expedition

Year 11 Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award students showed fantastic levels of resilience from Saturday to Monday. They were out in the South Downs and walked over 35 miles over the 3 days with their backpacks.
This was through an Amber heat warning. Throughout, they really impressed us with their good humour and determination. Walking in such high heat was tiring and students were careful to keep hydrated and wear their hats. They've learnt a great deal about managing extreme conditions in addition to their navigational skills improving.
Some of the views were stunning and it was lovely to catch the odd glimpse of the sea. Campcraft skills were strong, with students picking sensible food choices and working well in their teams to prepare their meals.
Thanks goes to Mrs Cucca our Trips Administrator for finding a coach company prepared to come and collect us earlier and saving the students from the midday heat on Monday (although resulting in a 4am wake up time!).
Thanks also to Mr Szczyrba, Mr Jewson, Mr Carroll and Miss Foster for supporting the expedition in very tough conditions. Without staff support these trips are not possible.
