Sixth Form continue their work with Bromley Homeless
Sixth Form students are volunteering for a second year at the winter shelter run by Bromley Homeless. For six Saturdays over the winter months, groups of four students accompanied by a member of staff will be undertaking the breakfast shift. This involves preparing breakfast for the guests and chatting to them before they leave for the day.
The first group went this weekend, accompanied by Miss Wilkie. They were fantastic and took readily to the volunteering role. All students taking part in the project also undertook training last week, learning about what they will be doing but also reflecting on the profound impact that homelessness has on people.
They engaged with the training thoughtfully and gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those who are homeless. Volunteering is a valuable experience which provides many transferable skills, whilst also giving our students a broader perspective on life. We are grateful to Bromley Homeless for giving students the chance and also thankful to the students who want to give back to the local community.
