Science (KS3)
Overview
Ms K. Bishop - KS3 Science Co-ordinator
At St. Olave’s, Key Stage 3 Science is taught in form groups, with each group usually having one Science teacher for all 3 Sciences. Students have 7 Science lessons per fortnight and study topics in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
The KS3 Science curriculum is sequenced to allow students to initially build on the knowledge they have gained in Key Stage 2, while connecting to the core concepts they have encountered in prior modules. We also develop the strands of the Big Ideas in Science which run through Key Stages 2,3,4 and 5. Relating the course to these ideas allows the students to make links between different aspects of their Science knowledge as they progress to Key Stage 4 and beyond.
Our aim is not just to equip the students with the knowledge and skills to pass examinations, but to enable them to relate their learning to unfamiliar situations and real-world applications.
