Artists of the Week

Year 7 Art

Year 7 students are currently studying organic form. For homework, Donir (7C) produced an impressive sketch of a flower, demonstrating his understanding of the weight-of-line and mark-making techniques to create the illusion of form and structure.

Leo (7L) recently visited the National Gallery and created this beautiful watercolour interpretation of The Water-Lily Pond (1899) by Claude Monet. His work shows a strong understanding of how analogous colours can work harmoniously within a composition.

Year 7 artists have also been asked to create an engaging cover page that introduces their teacher to their favourite artwork or style of art. Their pages (seen below) have been designed by Alec, Kai, Ian and Ted from 7B.

Year 8 Art

Year 8 students are exploring portraiture and learning how an understanding of tone helps transform flat shapes into realistic forms when drawing the face. Here, James (8L) demonstrates this skill by carefully building tonal value to turn simple 2D shapes into convincing 3D forms.

To start their portrait project, Year 8 students were shown the work of Maria Rivans who creates collaged portraits that reveal more about the subject's identity through her clever compositions. The students were challenged to create their own piece either of a person they admired or a self - portrait.

Our Year 13 Art ambassadors selected Taizeen (8B) as their favourite from his class due to the application of materials and striking layout.
