Computer Science in Action – Trip to Emmanuel Centre 2025

On Friday 7th November, Year 12 Computer Science students attended the Computer Science in Action conference at the Emmanuel Centre, London. The event featured inspiring talks from leading experts in the field.

Professor Dan Aldred opened the session with insights into the pioneering Astro Pi project, whose code now orbits the International Space Station. Dr Tishtrya Mehta, Data Scientist at HM Government, explained how computers interpret human language through Natural Language Processing, while Dr Chris Howe explored the impact of AI and computer vision on global sports analytics.

Caleb Oniwinde shared his journey from novice programmer to cloud engineer and YouTuber, encouraging students to seize opportunities in tech. The day concluded with Professor Sue Black OBE, who discussed AI’s transformative potential and ethical challenges.

Students also attended a session on examination techniques with Professor Matthew Leeke, gaining valuable academic guidance alongside industry inspiration.
