Physics Olympiad News Round-up

23 Feb 2026

As we draw to the end of the program of Physics Olympiad Competitions for Year 13, it seemed like a good opportunity to summarise the amazing successes of our students again this year.  The newly-instituted Round 0 ran for the first time this year, a way for the Oxford University based team that run the Physics Olympiads to deal with the increasing numbers taking part.  We were really proud as a school to see 18 students qualify into Round 1, including a number of plucky Year 12 students!  We had a very successful Round 1, with results for our top students as follows:

Devaansh Lulla – Top Gold

Abdul Rehman – Gold

Eashan Rautaray - Gold

Robin Saldanha – Silver

Remy Tanna – Silver

Aarya Thanappan – Silver

Taylor Clarke-Kiely – Silver

Anna Greenwood – Silver

Special mention should go to Pranav Subbarayan, our top scoring Y12 student who gained a Bronze 1 in this competition, beating many Y13 students across the country.

Running parallel with the Physics Olympiad, there is also the Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad.  This is even more fiendish in terms of difficulty!  Round 1 of the Astro Competition was amazingly successful, with our results as follows:

Devaansh Lulla – Top Gold

Kyle Firth – Gold

Abdul Rehman – Silver

Eashan Rauteray – Silver

Following on from these successes, Devaansh Lulla was invited to take part in Round 2 of both competitions.  The timings of these could have been better, falling right at the end of the January Mocks. Devaansh showed great determination and stamina, taking on both 3 hour papers with grit and good humour.  Results for these competitions came out just a few days ago, seeing him gain Silver in the Astro Olympiad and Bronze in the Physics.  This puts him amongst the very top physicists of his age in the country, and is a huge accolade.  His journey doesn’t end here either; he’s been invited to take part in the training stages for the International Olympiad Competition!  Really well done to all the students who have taken part in these competitions, and good luck to Devaansh with the next step.  We should mention that the Y12 competitions are running over the next couple of weeks, so good luck to the many Y12 Physicists about to take part in those.
