Yr 12 Cinéma Lumiere Trip

L’Étranger: “The Outsider” at the cinéma Lumiere South Kensington
On Friday 13th March, the Institut français Education Department invited schools to attend the 2025 cinema adaptation of the novel studied in Year 13 as part of the A Level examination. It is the first French adaptation, by the rising French film director François Ozon, of “L’Étranger” set in French Algeria, by author and philosopher Albert Camus who received the Nobel Prize for Literature.
The film is very faithful to the novel. It premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival and offers a philosophical approach to the human condition which illustrates Camus’s philosophy of the “Absurd” perfectly. It did not leave our students indifferent!
