Semaine de la Francophonie 2026

25 Mar 2026

The activities have continued this week celebrating Semaine de la Francophonie 2026 through many year groups.

Students from KS3 played a game or 2 of “Pétanque” in the New Quad and our Year 10 class started to watch a film based on a true story: “Les Intouchables”, which is based on a true story and was adapted to the big screen from a biography which depicts the making of a strong friendship between two men of totally opposite backgrounds but both full of humour: the part of the carer is played by the famously French actor Omar Sy, also known for playing the part of Lupin in the series of the same name, on Netflix.

8B and 8L watched a French animated film “Un chat à Paris”, where the plot revolves around catching a gang of thieves and a criminal. Students are now completing a booklet, showing their understanding of the plot. It is a gripping story which also raises awareness of France’s leading role in the field of animation.

The two Year 9 classes started a project on French-speaking countries while learning the simple future tense, for which students need to research facts on typical geographical features of the country, places they will visit, dishes they will eat etc… and produce a final long piece of writing in French on what they learnt about that country.

Yr 10 French classes watched a comedy “Les Intouchables” based on a true story which features the iconic Senegalese actor Omar Sy. This film will now be exploited orally and in writing to give an opportunity to students to write a film review and talk about their favourite scenes. The film is very humoristic and is therefore always well received.

In the lunch hour, there were activities such as a game of pétanque, a film adaptation of a comics book: Boule et Bill, a Zoom call with a school on the Martinique island (a 4 hour time difference)and a competition in a French GCSE level dictation together with a Spelling Bee challenge. A lot of House points and merits for participation were received!
