DofE Gold - Practice Expedition - Bannau Brycheiniog
Twenty Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award students set off for the Brecon Beacons over Easter to complete their Gold Practice Expedition. This is a requirement before they are eligible for their Gold assessed expedition. The weather was reasonably kind to them – we had some cold nights, but mostly cloudy and rain-free days with some good visibility at times.
Students worked well in their Teams to support one another. There was some great encouragement, especially when some of the steeper inclines were being navigated. The students can now all say they have successfully climbed several mountains – a great achievement! There were some wonderful views from Sugarloaf and students enjoyed their night next to the ruins of Llanthony Priory – a 12th Century Priory. They also greatly enjoyed their return to civilisation – a service station on the M4 in which huge quantities of fried chicken were enjoyed!
Well done to the students for their hard work and perseverance over some challenging terrain. It was fantastic to be able to witness their success! Thank you to Mr and Mrs Wiltshire for accompanying the students on this trip.
