Over half term members of the Year 8 cricket squad travelled to Bath to embark on a three match tour. We arrived on the Monday and took advantage of Bath CC’s impressive indoor net facility to prepare ourselves for three long days of cricket, especially given the hot weather.

Our first match was against Bath CC where we played a test match style fixture with each team having two 15 over innings. We scored 142/3 in our first innings with Archer Luong scoring 40 and Kierun Dey 25no. Bath CC scored 88 in reply and then we had our second innings – Kierun Dey continued his fine form, retiring on 33 with fellow opener Arnav Anisetty scoring 23 with our total 107/5. This meant Bath CC needed to score 161 to win. Tight bowling kept them to 74 and we posted our first in on the tour. Pizza and ten-pin bowling were an ideal end to the day!

We then played a fixture against Thornbury CC in a similar formatted fixture the next day. Thornbury CC batted first scoring 99/6 with Akshat Boosara claiming 2 wickets for 4 runs in his 2 overs, as well as the team taking some excellent catches. We replied with an impressive 176/3 with openers Kierun Dey and Arnav Anisetty both retiring on 26 and 24 respectively, while Archer Luong scored an unbeaten 50 and Nikil Patel batted well for his 18. Thornbury CC were then restricted to 91/7, meaning we needed just 14 to win which we duly accomplished.

On the morning of our final day we went into Bath to explore the city and visit the famous Roman Baths. On our way home we played our final fixture against Chippenham CC in a 30 over fixture. St. Olave’s batted first and managed a total of 213/7 courtesy of an unbeaten 50 from captain Abdullah Chaudhury, ably supported by 43 from Samraat Hiremath and 30 from Avy Gowda. St. Olave’s then proceeded to bowl well with Tanush Ghotankar claiming 3 wickets for 4 runs in his 2 overs, and Dharav Dalal getting 2 wickets on his birthday; this restricted Chippenham to a total of 109 meaning we had won all of our games on tour.

The boys were great company, learned a lot about cricket as well as visiting a beautiful city. Hopefully this has given them many happy memories and a boost for their cricket season.
