German Day: Ein fantastischer Tag für Year 7H and 7L Germanists! Ein Rückblick ...
Year 7 hatten so viel Spaß on German Day during Activity Week, celebrating die wunderbare Welt der deutschsprachigen Länder.
The day began with a lively presentation and quiz exploring the German‑speaking world — from poets like Goethe and Schiller, the Printing Press to X‑rays, SMS technology, and discoveries in space and cell biology, to groundbreaking scientists who invented the Computer, Aspirin, and even Persil Waschpulver. Pupils also discovered iconic German cars and impressive sporting achievements.
“We learnt about some amazing German inventions and discoveries. It was surprising to see how much German engineers, scientists and doctors have contributed to the world — including famous people like Albert Einstein.” Von Kavish T Y7.
“Many Germans are widely recognised throughout history. From classic music scholars like Beethoven, Mozart and Brahms, to famous brand creators like Adi Dassler (Adidas) and Henkel (Persil soap)“ Rire Y7.
“We found out through the engaging and interesting presentation from the German department, that German-speaking inventors helped create the Computer, the MP3 Player, the printing press, Aspirin, the X‑ray, SMS, and even made major discoveries
in cell division and different planets and space.
Learning about these accomplishments showed us how influential Germany has been in shaping medicine, technology, communication, and science. It also gave us a much broader view of the country — not just as a place with a cool language and
culture, but as a nation that has played a major role in advancing human knowledge and innovation.” Von Kavish T Y7.
A rapid Songs Review of the Eurovision Song Contest finalists gave everyone the chance to share opinions and cast their own votes — sehr spannend!
“I thoroughly enjoyed Eurovision and I've found out that it is an international music contest dating back to 1956, held mainly across member countries of the EU. It has had a significant cultural impact worldwide.” Von Albert Y7.
Next came another one of the day’s highlights: Märchen auf Deutsch (Fairy tales in German). After learning about the Brothers Grimm, 7H and 7L created imaginative puppets from socks, carrots, potatoes and lolly sticks, then performed their own Puppentheater versions of Aschenputtel (Cinderella) — entirely in German.
“The Fairy tales ‘auf Deutsch’ included learning about different German authors like the Brothers Grimm and their stories collections. We also had a lot of fun acting out Cinderella with craft puppets we created in our groups on the day, using our very best German accents. Ja ja ja! … Nein nein nein! … Doch doch doch!
