A team of ten Computer Science students proudly represented St. Olave’s at a recent hackathon hosted by Imperial College London, where they competed against students from other grammar schools to develop an innovative solution to a real-world challenge.
Focusing on the issue of food waste, the team worked efficiently under pressure to design, build and present a fully functioning prototype.

Their app could scan shopping receipts, automatically add purchased items to a virtual pantry, monitor expiry dates and recommend recipes using available ingredients. Through excellent teamwork, communication and technical skill, the students produced a compelling pitch and demonstrated their solution with confidence. Their professionalism was evident during the question-and-answer session, where every member contributed thoughtfully.

The judges were highly impressed, and St. Olave’s emerged as the overall winner, earning both a trophy and an invitation to return to Imperial College London for a special day of learning within the Computing Department.
