The Year 7 Cricket Squad competed in the Reigate 6’s tournament last Wednesday and they played some fantastic cricket throughout the day.

After narrowly losing their first game against Kingston Grammar School with two balls remaining, the team were left with a must win match against St Benedict’s. After a fantastic bowling performance, we bowled the opposition out for just 27 runs and swiftly chased down the target in less than three overs. This left us in the Bowl semi-final against UCS. After a slow start to our innings, the team quickly accelerated to score a fantastic 62 off our 5 overs. This was backed up by a measured bowling performance which restricted UCS to just 41 runs and saw us progress into the Bowl final against RGS Guildford.

What followed was a fantastic game of 6 aside cricket which went down to the last 3 deliveries once again, unfortunately with St. Olave’s coming out on the wrong side of this result once more. Having batted first, we scored 41 runs which is a competitive score in this format of the game, but a couple of crucial boundaries came at the wrong time and meant we finished the day in 6th position overall.

Year 8 also competed well in their tournament winning a tough pool by beating both RGS Guildford and Sevenoaks School, but losing narrowly to Ardingly College – a nervous wait ensued as we were level on points with Ardingly having both won 2 games and lost 1, but we went through as pool winners due to more bonus points.

This meant we were in the main Cup semi-final where we played hosts Reigate. Excellent bowling and fielding restricted them to 44 runs which we set about chasing, and despite our best efforts we fell just short.

A great experience though, and the boys can be proud of their day’s work, finishing in the top 4 schools in this prestigious competition.
