Year 10 Trip to Normandy - 2026 AW2
The Normandy trip was packed with historic visits and sampling the regional cuisine, in order to be immersed in French culture. They visited the Bayeux market where they had 5 euros to buy their picnic, then the Cathedral and the Commonwealth cemetery.
The group also visited the Villedieu-les Poeles bell foundery and learnt about how to work copper to turn it into pans and trophies. The Year 10 French class also learnt about the D-Day Landing operations, starting with the capture of the “Pegasus Bridge” and the events which ensued at the 360 degrees cinema at Arromanches, where they tried to capture the scale of the preparations and the sacrifice made by the Allied Forces while progressing through to Normandy on their way to Paris and finally Germany.
At the Chateau, they tasted snails and mussels and had a crepe evening, a BBQ as well as a cider farm visit and a hands-on experience in the workshop of a bakery.
All participants found something to their taste and saw first hand what they had learnt in their History lessons with Mr Espejo when they were in Year 8.
