DE GAULLE PART 1 at Cinéma Lumière
Following a yearly tradition of inviting all 6th Form students studying French to watch a French film at the Cinéma Lumiere, in South Kensington, this academic year started with this huge production in 2 parts of over 2 hours each: “ La Bataille De Gaulle”. This film was only released in France last summer and is totally relevant to provide the background to the film studied at A level. With a budget between €70m – €75m for both parts, it is certainly spectacular.
From the fall of France in June 1940 under the Nazi invasion, to his exile in London, through the hurdles which he faced when meeting Churchill, Roosevelt and condemned to death by the Pétain Government, the film is a fast-paced biopic and we are forced to admire such determination in one single man without whom the course of history would have been different.
We are looking forward to Part 2, showing on 1st October.
