Yr 13 Trip to CERN - 2026

Last weekend, the Physics department took 44 Year 13s to Geneva to visit CERN. Accompanied by Mr Clegg, Mr Birtchnell, Dr Corlett, and Ms Dinkova, we were treated to a tour of the Antimatter Factory and the CERN Data Centre.

Students were lucky enough to go into the basement of the Antimatter Factory to see a large decelerator for themselves. Students learnt about the different experiments taking place at CERN to explore the properties of antimatter.

The CERN data centre showed our students the scale of the computational resources needed to store and process the terabytes of data collected every day.

Congratulations to Thomas for winning the CERN selfie competition ("holding" the CERN equations monument).

In the evening, the students experienced an authentic alpine meal including fondue and frankfurters accompanied by live Oompa music.

On the Sunday we visited the History of Science Museum and gave students the opportunity to explore parts of Geneva on their own before returning to the UK.
